1. Patellar Luxation: It is a condition that causes the kneecap to shift from its original place. Symptoms include limping and an unusual gait. It can be diagnosed with a physical examination by the vet. Anti-inflammatory and pain medications may be prescribed based on the severity of the condition.
2. Mitral Valve Dysplasia: It is caused by a congenital abnormality of one or more parts of the mitral valve complex. It is frequently signaled by a heart murmur, which a veterinarian might detect during a cardiac examination. Symptoms include: coughing, fatigue, increased panting, and fainting. Despite the lack of a cure, there are ways to manage symptoms, such as hospitalization with oxygen therapy, oral drugs, diuretic therapy, exercise limitation, and even lowering the dog's sodium intake.
3. Hereditary Nephritis: Kidney Failure is a common health issue faced by Bull Terriers. Reduced appetite, increased thirst, and increased urination are symptoms to look out for. Your vet may conduct a urine or a blood test to diagnose kidney failure.
4. Partial or Total Deafness: According to PetMD, Bull Terriers may be born with partial or total deafness. Puppies as early as 6–8 weeks old can be screened for hereditary deafness using the brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER) test, which is considered the best hearing test currently available. There is no cure for deafness in dogs, but they can live long and happy lives with the help of visual training.
