In what is being hailed as one of the best steps taken by a Municipal corporation in India, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has launched a new online dog licence system. This digital option is designed to improve accessibility, reduce paperwork, and ensure better compliance with pet registration norms.

According to the LMC's animal welfare officer, Dr. Abhinav Verma, this initiative is expected to benefit over 10,000 pet owners in Lucknow. Earlier, there was an in-person registration process but it was very inconvenient and tedious. The new system, launched in collaboration with a private bank, is now live on the official LMC website.

Dog Licence Application Made Simple

As reported by the Times of India, Pet owners can now apply for a pet dog licence online without visiting the municipal office. Just follow the steps!

  • Registering on the LMC website
  • Uploading documents like vaccination records, a recent photo of the dog, and owner contact details
  • A same-day inspection by a zonal team for verification
  • Licence approval within 3 days
  • Smart card issuance with a unique ID number upon payment

The best part? This new digital platform complements the existing offline system, giving pet parents a more convenient way to stay compliant.

Licence Fees and Limits in Lucknow

The licence fees for pet dog registration in Lucknow remain unchanged, with Rs 200 charged for local breeds and Rs 1,000 for foreign breeds. However, only two licences per pet owner are allowed. To make sure the regulation is followed, pet parents with unlicensed dogs being fined up to Rs 5,000, while those who delay renewing their licences are being fined a late fee of Rs 50 per day.

Contact for Offline Registration of Pets

Pet parents who prefer the traditional method can still register their dogs offline by reaching out to:

  • Jayant Singh: 9511156792
  • Afsar Ali: 9721095021

By launching this online pet registration platform, the LMC aims to improve pet welfare, enforce responsible ownership, and streamline municipal services.

What Happy Pet is waiting for:

While this ruling takes us a few steps closer to responsible pet ownership and regularising the system, what we need is to find a way to link this to pet abandonment. Currently, microchips with all details of the dog, including vaccine status, being made mandatory, looks to be the only solution to this problem.
