Sneak peak into the Mudhol Hound origin

Mudhol Hounds are originally a native Indian dog breed originating from the Southern state of i.e. Karnataka. Shrimant Rajesaheb Malojirao Ghorpade of Mudhol (1884–1937) of Mudhol state in pre-independence India is known to have worked toward reviving this particular breed.

He observed that Mudhol Hounds are the dog breeds found in that particular region that are mainly used by the local tribes in hunting wild boars. Through selective breeding the king revived this royal Mudhol Hound breed. During his visit to England in the 1900s he then presented a pair of hounds to King George V which then popularized this breed.

Due to their popularity and physical traits the Indian Army expressed the desire to employ Mudhol Hounds in border security and surveillance. The dogs were bred after selection and there is a Canine research centre in Bagalkot district of Karnataka.
