According to BSDCC, The Belgian Shepherd is a herding breed originating from Belgium. It was first bred to be used by farmers to herd and guard sheep. In the late 19th century, breeders concentrated on developing a strong, intelligent and agile dog. That made the breed ideal for herding and protection work.

Belgian Shepherds are intelligent and are quick learners. Today they are widely used in police, military and search and rescue work. They have an athletic build and sharp focus, making them excellent working dogs.
