Introduction of the Twospined Angelfish
Twospined Angelfish (Centropyge bispinosus) is a small, colorful saltwater fish that is highly sought after for its indigo blue body and yellow tail and spines for identification. Its small size and bright colors make it a popular choice to inhabit a saltwater aquarium.
They are slightly bigger and more colorful than the female, with less pronounced and smaller markings on the female. Twospined Angelfish are moderately aggressive, curious, and very interactive with the environment, being visually appealing to reef or marine community aquariums.
Origin of the Twospined Angelfish
It occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, offshore of Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines. They inhabit coral reefs and rocky crevices in the wild and where they are sheltered by many hiding places. They feed on algae, small invertebrates, and detritus, which naturally sustains reef systems. They are aquacultured and are increasingly available to aquarists.
Temperament of the Twospined Angelfish
Twospined Angelfish are half peaceful and half territorial and will get along with other peaceful marine animals but will defend their territory fiercely, particularly in smaller tanks. Because they are so curious, they are active fish who swim into every nook and corner of the tank to explore and play with ornaments, rocks, and coral.
Twospined Angelfish Compatibility with Other Fish
Twospined Angelfish can be housed with other semi-aggressive or strongerfish, but carefully. Suitable tankmates include:
- Clownfish, gobies, and wrasses
- Twospined angelfish of the same temperament
- Blennies and tangs
Avoid housing them with extremely small, delicate fish, or bottom-dwellers which lack the capacity to compete for space. There being plentiful amounts of hideaways and visual cover territorial fights are minimized.
Twospined Angelfish Price Range
Twospined Angelfish are relatively inexpensive for a saltwater fish. They range in price from ₹2,500 to ₹5,000 (US $30–65) depending upon size, color, and origin. As they are reef-safe and well-colored marked, hobbyists love them, making them one of the most sought-after saltwater aquarium fish.
