Introduction of the Lake Kutubu Rainbowfish
The most rainbow-colored of them all is the Lake Kutubu Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia lacustris), or Turquoise Rainbowfish. The males possess iridescent turquoise-blue bodies, whereas females are not so vividly colored and slightly less in body. Males are active, hardy, and prefer to be in a group and hence will be a great centerpiece for a community aquarium.
Origin of the Lake Kutubu Rainbowfish
From their name itself, the Lake Kutubu Rainbowfish live naturally in Papua New Guinea's Lake Kutubu. They live naturally in well-oxygenated, clear water with vegetation around, feeding on insects, alga, and minor crustaceans. Their natural habitat makes the requirement for clean and well-oxygenated water a requirement for aquarium care.

Lake Kutubu Rainbowfish are active but not brutal, displaying best colours in the smallest schooling group of 6 or more. Males will chase during courtship but never brutally. Their schooling active nature makes them perfect for big planted tanks.
