Kuhli Loach (Pangio kuhlii) is an eel-like small fresh-water fish, and they're popular with aquarists because they are incredibly colourful and vibrant yet peaceful. Unconventional bottom-dwellers of Southeast Asia, which graze aquarium detritus. Striped, slender shape, nocturnal habits make them a fascinating quarry for well-planted community aquariums.

Origin of the Kuhli Loach

Kuhli Loaches inhabit Indonesia, Malaysia, and nearby Southeast Asian nations with sand bottom substrate, leaf litter, and heavy vegetative cover in their forest streams. Their ideal aquariums are shaded, low-light tanks of soft, very slightly acidic water.

Temperament of the Kuhli Loach

Kuhli Loaches are shy, fearful, and loving. They will be hidden in the security of rocks, caves, or driftwood during the day but brighten the moment it is dusk. They prefer to reside in a 5–6 or bigger school of fish where they will be safe as well as entertainment-close natures.

Compatibility of Kuhli Loach with Other Fish

Kuhli Loaches are very tolerant of community fish and friendly with most peaceful fish including:

  1. Tetras and rasboras
  2. Corydoras catfish
  3. Gouramis
  4. Shrimps and snails (but very small ones will be eaten)

Do not keep with:

  1. Fighting cichlids
  2. Large carnivorous fish who will eat them
  3. Noisy fish who will harass them for food

Kuhli Loach Price Range

Loaches are inexpensive and usually around ₹200–₹500 ($3–$6) in terms of size and availability. Albino and black will cost a bit more.
