Maintain daily health & care for the fish in the following ways -
- Very sensitive to water quality - ammonia and nitrite must be zero.
- Filtration must be powerful enough to manage high bioload.
- Territorial behaviour increases as it grows - stress, injury, or disease can result if the tank is overcrowded or lacks hiding places.
- Because of their protogynous hermaphroditism: females mature around 5 years old, and transition to male around 9-16 years, often when larger (≈ 60-80 cm).
